# July 7, 1947 — Elkhorn, WI — Pilot Sees Saucer

11:30 a.m. Flight instructor Kenneth Jones out of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, is practicing take-offs and landings with a student near Koshkonong. They watch a disc descending vertically on edge through the alto-cumulus clouds at 6,000 feet, stop at 4,000 feet, assume a horizontal orientation, and fly horizontally for 15 seconds, covering 23 miles at 5,500 mph. At one point it heads straight towards them on a course of about 120°, then stops again (apparently overhead) and disappears. [Eberhart]
