Book Club: Suggested Reading List

Here we highlight the UAP Discovery staff picks for the best books and resources available on UAP and UFO’s. Please feel free to add your own recommendations as well.

“Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth”

I read “Extraterrestrial,” by Avi Loeb when it first came out in January of 2021. Alejandro and I agree that it is one of the few books that we would recommend as it aligns with the values and interests of UAP Discovery. In the book, Leob presents a thought-provoking examination of the mysterious interstellar object known as 'Oumuamua. Loeb suggests that 'Oumuamua displayed strange characteristics that could be consistent with artificial manufacture, such as its unusual shape, high reflectivity and movement. He draws parallels between 'Oumuamua and Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), suggesting that both could potentially be evidence of extraterrestrial technology, and that it would be foolish not to consider such a possibility, no matter how unlikely it may be.

Throughout the book, Loeb challenges readers to rethink conventional assumptions about UAP, offering a fresh perspective on the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence. While his theories are speculative and controversial, they are grounded in scientific observation and rigorous analysis. “Extraterrestrial” is an engaging and informative read for anyone interested in the mysteries of the universe and the search answers to the UAP mystery.

“The Paranormal: Who Believes, Why They Believe, and Why It Matters”

In “The Paranormal: Who Believes, Why They Believe, and Why It Matters,” Eric Goode examines various unexplained phenomena from a sociological perspective, including beliefs surrounding UFOs. The book offers valuable insights into the social and cultural factors that influence people’s beliefs in the unexplained. Goode’s work challenges the idea that scientific thinking is innate or easily accessible for everyone. He argues that scientific skepticism requires practice and education and may not be the default mode of thought for most individuals.

The chapter on UFOs highlights the intricate relationship between personal experiences, cultural beliefs, and scientific explanations. While acknowledging that many people may lean towards unconventional explanations for UFOs, Goode emphasizes the importance of scientific skepticism when evaluating such phenomena. Throughout the book, Goode presents compelling statistics on beliefs in the unexplained. For example, he reports that roughly one-third of Americans believe that UFOs are extraterrestrial spacecraft, and over half believe that intelligent life exists on other planets.

Overall, Goode offers a well-researched and thought-provoking exploration of belief in unexplained phenomena. Goode’s insights on UFOs and scientific thinking challenge readers to approach such topics with both curiosity and critical analysis, separating the study of UFOs from the realm of paranormal phenomena.

“Interstellar: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and Our Future in the Stars”

Avi Loeb’s “Interstellar” is a thought-provoking exploration of extraterrestrial life and our future in the stars. As a prominent astrophysicist and the longest-serving Chair of Harvard’s Astronomy Department, Loeb makes a compelling case for the search for alien technology within our solar system. His ambitious Galileo Project seeks to identify Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) across various environments, from space to the ocean floor.

The Galileo Project’s core principles resonate with UAP discovery, emphasizing the importance of parallel, simultaneous multi-modal and multi-spectral imaging techniques. By promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and fostering advanced scientific pursuits, both the Galileo Project and UAP research aim to elevate our understanding of the universe and potentially connect with more advanced cosmic civilizations.

Loeb’s belief that searching for physical evidence of extraterrestrial life is a necessary step in expanding our knowledge and broadening our horizons is evident throughout the book. As the Galileo Project continues to develop cutting-edge observatories and analyze intriguing data, such as extrasolar composition spherules, it becomes clear that the intersections between the project and UAP discovery are more than mere coincidence.

“Interstellar” serves as a testament to the power of curiosity and the relentless pursuit of truth in the field of astrophysics. While some may remain skeptical of the search for extraterrestrial life, Avi Loeb’s work makes it increasingly difficult to ignore the possibility of alien technology in our cosmic neighborhood. As we continue to explore the cosmos, the principles of the Galileo Project and UAP discovery will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping our understanding of the universe and our place within it.
