4:45 p.m. Dale Bays is driving a bus about 7 miles out of Clarion, Iowa, when he sees an object shoot in front of him. This is followed by four more objects at about 1,200 feet. He gets out of the bus and notices 13 objects that look like an inverted saucer approaching from the west in a single file. They are about 175–250 feet in diameter and 12 feet thick and traveling about 300 mph to the south-southeast. They are making a sound like an electric motor or dynamo as they pass overhead.
