September 25, 1960 — S of Midway Island
8:11 p.m. The crew of a military aircraft south of Midway Island reports seeing a bright, round-to-oval object, about the apparent size of a dime at arm’s length, continuously cycling colors from red to green to white, each lasting 3–4 seconds. They first spot it while turning left from course 30 to 210 degrees. The object appears to climb from water level, speeds past the aircraft’s tail to their 5 o’clock position, and disappears. It is next seen when the aircraft is level at 15,000 feet on course 210 degrees, positioned 60 degrees relative and 40 degrees above. The object then moves across the nose to a 330-degree relative bearing, low, before vanishing behind a cloud bank with tops at 10,000 feet. The sighting lasts 4 minutes.
