9:30 p.m. A grocery store clerk and Ground Observer Corps member in Bellingham, Washington, named Saunders sees an unusual light moving approximately 30° across the Big Dipper. It moves in varying speeds, the intensity of its light growing when it moves faster. Saunders watches the light for 15 minutes. [Eberhart]
